My Gig
I love serving @ Crossroads – it’s simply the sweetest gig! I serve primarily in the area of Extending Love. Extending Love means I get to partner with others to express God’s love in the church family, in the community, and in the world (see…a pretty sweet gig huh!?). Like icing on the cake, as a part of extending love, I get to do life with the staff, families, and children in our childcare ministry, The Learning Tree. I help to shape the direction and overall vision of the ministry, care for and develop the amazing team of women who invest their lives, and join them in humbly serving as God’s hands in the lives of the children and families that pass thru the doors.
How It All Started
You see when two people love each other…. :) My mom and dad, Greg and Connie, loved each other and on November 9, 1974, In Lima, Oh I was born - Rebecca Sue Bodey (Sue’s my mom’s middle name too). My sister Chris, who was 7 at the time, hesitantly welcomed me home, to wreck her seven year run as an only child but got a kitten as a consolation prize (the cat always liked me best though...it’s hard to be the oldest sister or so I’ve heard ).
The Journey
It all started on a dusty ball field in the summer of 1992…(can you picture it? ) The neighborhood church had a youth softball team that a friend of mine played on; I was bored and tagged along. Adolescence is a tragic condition and I had a full blown case of it…quirky and awkward, I felt pretty unlovable. Jon McDivitt, the youth pastor/coach, and the youth staff were shockingly nice to me, I didn’t understand it at the time, but they sincerely loved me – which was inescapable. I experienced Jesus’ unconditional love before I knew who He was, so by the time I heard about Christ…I was an easy sell. A beautiful parade of people have helped shape my image of God and who I am in Christ. Being loved by God and those He loves helped plant in me a deep calling … a calling to serve the church and love as I am loved. I graduated from Anderson University and returned to Lima in 1998….since then I’ve been walking, learning, loving, and looking…God is in the journey.
Home and Family
I live in the house I grew up in – a small ranch that my parents had built in ‘79. My super hero dad lives with me – he’s good company, a master with the t.v. remote, and he unloads the dishwasher, both super and heroic in my opinion! I have one twisted sister, Chris, whose company I enjoy more than just about anything. She gave me 3 fantastic nieces, Jessica (20), Jhennafer (17), and Julia (16). My mom passed in 1999, but if you could meet her - you’d understand me. The pastors, teachers, and friends that have crossed my path over the past 17 years are grafted into my family too as they have birthed great life and love into my existence.
Things I Love…
The smell of spring, road trips, time with family, bargains, a good tear jerker, bathroom humor, and those little white powdered donuts. Children and inner children, my down comforter, touch, laughing ‘til it hurts, XOXO, autumn campfires and a good story. Cats, friends new and old, long walks and long talks, putting my feet in a river, and Thai food. Hugh Grant movies, new places, new clothes, memories of my mom and granny, going away and coming home. The smell of a baby’s head, worship, art, optimism, and lots of things I haven’t mention and am yet to discover…
